Hi, I’m Grace Kisiu from Kavieng in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea.
I was enjoying life, being single and a working mum to my four children. Life was really good. I was the mother and the boss and I could do whatever I wanted. Parties and alcohol were a big part of my life.
Then it just happened that one day I noticed a few boils on my body that didn’t go away and sometime later I started coughing too. I told myself it would come and go and the thought of seeing a doctor was not necessary. Then again after a few weeks, I was coughing heavily and spitting blood and the boils were swelling all over my body. I was losing a lot of weight in a short period of time, from 115 to 65 kilos, and I knew something was terribly wrong.
My friends and relatives urged me to see a doctor, but I refused because I was too scared to know the truth. By this time, I was very sick and bedridden for weeks. I couldn’t go to work or look after my children anymore.
I left the kids to fend for themselves because I didn’t have the strength.
Eventually, I went to see a doctor and took a blood test and the truth I heard that day was my worst nightmare: “Grace, your blood has tested HIV positive.“
My whole life was shattered and I knew I was going to die.
I couldn’t believe it so I went back home and prayed to God that it would go away. The next day I took another test and I was still HIV positive. I was so embarrassed, very sad and confused knowing that a lot of people knew me. My whole life was shattered and I knew I was going to die.
Then one day I heard this wonderful message about God still performing miracles today and the message of salvation: repent, be baptised and receive the Holy Spirit. I wanted the Lord to heal me. So on the day I will never forget – Feb 5 2012 – I repented, got baptised by full immersion and received the Holy Spirit. I felt my whole world change and I knew I was in the right place at the right time. I was engulfed by this love, joy and peace that only God can give.
I praise and thank God every day. I felt better every day and after three weeks, the Lord completely healed me and the sores and boils on my body dried up. God had miraculously healed me, given me a new life that came with His blessings, promises and a job. I gained weight again and I am over my normal weight.
I have a big task ahead of me to spread the Word of God. I want to change lives and see the kingdom of God grow.
